Rakul Preet performs High Lunge Prayer Twist for ‘strength, detox and peace’; know the benefits

Yoga is known for its various benefits on one’s body and mind when performed regularly. Actor Rakul Preet Singh, who frequently gives sneak peeks into her fitness regime, was once again seen performing another asana — the High Lunge Prayer Twist.

In a post shared by yoga fitness trainer Anshuka Parwani, Rakul Preet showed her fitness and flexibility as she performed this twist. Take a look.

“Balancing twists @rakulpreet for strength, detox and peace. Love the way twists work on the body and mind and this particular high lunge prayer twist is also one of my favourites,” she captioned the post.

According to yoga experts at Fitnesstalks, “Abdominal organs are more contracted in this pose which aids in digestion. The blood circulates well around the abdominal organs and the spinal column, and thus rejuvenates the body and mind.”

“It even helps to remove waste matter from the colon without strain, which helps treat constipation as well,” they added.

How to do it?

  1. Begin in high lunge with your right foot forward.
  2. Put your hands together in a prayer form at the center of your chest. Take a deep breath in, using your thumbs to slightly lift your chest.
  3. Exhale to engage your navel to your spine and twist your torso to the right.
  4. While inhaling extend your spine up and while exhaling bend sideward to left. Let the left elbow cross the right thigh; and hold the posture in normal breathing.

Faroe Islands: Activists slam killing of hundreds of dolphins

The traditional annual killing of whales and dolphins sparked controversy on Tuesday after it emerged that over 1,400 of the marine animals were killed in this year’s event, according to Danish media reports.

The so-called “grindadrap” hunt has been going on for over four hundred years on the small North Atlantic islands that belong to Denmark. But the large number of animals killed on Sunday has raised fears of tarnishing the islands’ reputation.

The environmental organization Sea Shepherd posted a long video on Facebook showing the slaughter of the 1,428 white-sided dolphins, calling it the largest group of animals killed in one go on the islands.

The Switzerland-based marine organization OceanCare also criticized the practice, saying “a line has been crossed here and a new dimension of hunting has been reached.”

Excessive killing

The islanders usually kill up to 1,000 sea mammals each year. Last year, they only killed 35 white-sided dolphins.

Several people involved in the hunting tradition have since distanced themselves from this year’s killing, with the former chairman of the Faroese association for pilot whaling telling a local broadcaster that it was excessive.

The foreman of a different group that drives pilot whales toward shore on another island said that he had not known of the large dolphin drive and “strongly dissociated” himself from it.

The islands’ Fishery Minister Jacob Vestergaard told the radio broadcaster Kringvarp Foaroya that the dolphin hunt had been done by the book.

Neither pilot whales nor white-sided dolphins are endangered. The hunt usually focuses on the whales rather than the dolphins.

The animals are driven into shallow waters where they are then cut with knives. The killing is regulated by local laws. The meat and blubber from the animals is shared out among the community.

Pune revenue officials approach cops against man who took over 18 acres of forest land using fake ministerial order

Pune city police said Saturday that they are in the process of filing an FIR against a Hadapsar resident who allegedly produced fake documents in the name of a former minister and attempted to assume ownership of about 18 acres of forest land estimated to be worth over Rs 200 crores in the market. Revenue officials in Pune had submitted a complaint against the man on Friday.

Baffled district officials have now cancelled the land transfer in the name of the individual identified by the police as P P Shitkal. He had submitted fake documents from 2018 in the name of the then Revenue Minister Chandrakant Patil who is now chief of the state BJP unit.

“The documents made us believe that the order was indeed issued by the minister on 31.1.2018 and we had, therefore, transferred the forest land in his name,” Haveli tehsildar Trupti Kolte told The Indian Express on Saturday.

How to unleash the entrepreneurial power of 1.3 billion Indians

In 1893, a 12-day sea journey from Japan to Canada sparked multiple conversations between two remarkable Indians travelling independently to attend the World Parliament of Religions and a Technology Expo. Swami Vivekananda convinced Jamsetji Tata that technology can be imported but scientific temper cannot be bought and must be built within a country. A direct outcome of this chance encounter was Jamsetji setting up the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore. An indirect outcome was a technology-encouraging culture at the Tatas that pioneered India’s software industry in the 1960s: India now exports more software than Saudi Arabia does oil. Covid and recent Chinese events have increased India’s attractiveness to global investors. We make the case for unshackling 1.3 billion Indians with a surgical strike on the regulatory cholesterol that sabotages our productivity.

Hollywood actor Kaley Cuoco and her husband Karl Cook have called it quits after three years of marriage. In a joint statement issued to People magazine on Friday, Cuoco and Cook announced that they have amicably made the decision to go their separate ways.

“Despite a deep love and respect for one another, we have realised that our current paths have taken us in opposite directions. We have both shared so much of our journey publicly so while we would prefer to keep this aspect of our personal life private, we wanted to be forthcoming in our truth together,” they said in the statement.

Cuoco, 35, and Cook, 30, further said that there is “no anger or animosity” between them.

“We have made this decision together through an immense amount of respect and consideration for one another and request that you do the same in understanding that we will not be sharing any additional details or commenting further,” they added.

They tied the knot in June 2018 in a small ceremony in San Diego, California.
